Tunnel News We’ve been hard at work here at the Tunnel HQ keeping things moving forward with all things Tunnel. We have recently released the Tunnel “Doug Schneider” Beam Deck. Made with 8 plys of maple here in California, the beam deck is then routered by hand on the sides to create a deck that has the strength where you need it – on the beam down the middle. It’s the signature deck of Doug Schneider, one of the great skaters of the ‘70s. Hailing from San Pedro, Doug was a key member of Tunnel and had one of the most amazing covers of SkateBoarder Magazine in May of 1979 climbing well above 9 o’clock in an unbelievable concrete tunnel. Jimbo Phillips of Santa Cruz did the deck’s simple yet beautiful graphics, and the deck’s diamond tail shape was taken from an original 70's shape by Tunnel founder Mitch Haake. The “Doug Schneider” Beam Deck is one deck you won’t want to miss for that true Old School vibe. Team Tunnel was definitely the team to beat in the ‘70s. We are now in the process of rebuilding Team Tunnel. Our first member, Conner Wagner, hails from the North Shore of Hawaii and he’s just as comfortable in the waves as he is on a ramp or street. In fact, he often skates to surf tourneys on a Tunnel Retro deck with Tunnel Rocks wheels and claims that he prepares for carving the waves by skating the hills of North Shore. “Almost all the Old School skaters surfed, too,” he said, “and I just want to continue that tradition of surfing and skating.” Look for big things to come from this great new Team Tunnel skater. We’ve added to new hardnesses to the Tunnel Rocks wheel line – a clear blue 75A and an amber 82A. These help fill up the range of Tunnel Rocks. We’re currently developing new products including more legendary Tunnel wheels and high quality Tunnel decks. So keep your eyes open! |
